outside your school

We're surrounded by history.  In order to get a sense of our history, we need to find some clues to the past.  The clues are all around us, if you know where to look.

The first place to look is outside your school.   Many older schools have the date they were opened carved in stone or painted over the main entrance to the school building.  Some schools have ceremonial corner stones, indicating when the foundation of the building was laid; other schools have bronze plaques identifying the architects and engineers who designed and built the school.  Many newer schools have a dedication plaque, indicating when the school was officially opened.
