school district offices

Your School District holds most of the historical records connected with your school.  Records more than four or five years old, but less than fifty years old, are usually retained in School District offices.  (Material more than fifty years old should have been transferred to your community archives.)

School District records may include building plans, financial reports, photographs, school board minutes, and staff lists (showing names of former teachers).

Access to some of this material may be restricted under the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  If that's the case, you'll need to apply for permission to look at the records.  Many records may also be kept in remote records storage facilities, and so will not be immediately available to you.

Be sure to consult with your school secretary and local School District officials to make arrangements to consult these records. Addresses and contacts for School Districts are available at the Community Learning Network: http://www.cln.org/k12_index.html
