The BC Archives offers the largest number (45,000) of on-line images available over the Internet. To find a picture of your community or your school, go to the Visual Records section. Scroll down the page to the heading Searching the On-Line Visual Records Catalogue and select "Search the Visual Records Database (according to your own criteria)"If the reference note is preceded by a blue ball -- [A black ball -- You can also search the database by subject through the Visual Records Subject Cross Reference page. For example, the subject heading "School Teachers" brings up descriptions of over 200 images; the subject heading "School Buildings" brings up descriptions of over 2,000 images. These subject headings are listed under the letter "S" in the Visual Records "predefined searches" section. As well, you can search the database of archival photographs by geographic region. Scroll down to the very bottom of the Visual Records page, click on the small, multi-coloured image map and voila! -- you'll find links to images related to thirty geographic regions, such as Columbia-Shuswap, Kitimat-Stikine, and the Central Fraser Valley. |
